This Privacy Policy describes how thecareer.ca ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website at thecareer.ca (the "Site") and our products and services. By using the Site, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
Information you provide directly. When you create an account, subscribe to a plan, purchase a product, use our tools, or contact us, we may collect your name, email address, and payment information. Payment details are processed securely by Stripe and Gumroad — we do not store your full credit card number on our servers.
Content you submit to our tools. When you use the ATS Resume Scanner, Resume Builder, or Cover Letter Generator, you may upload or enter resume text, job descriptions, and other career-related content. This content is processed in order to provide the Services and may be transmitted to third-party AI providers (see "AI Processing" below).
Account data. If you create an account, we store your email address, subscription status, and tool usage history (such as how many scans or downloads you have used) in our database hosted by Supabase.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, referring URL, and time spent on pages through standard analytics and tracking tools.
We use the information we collect to: provide, operate, and improve the Site and Services; process subscriptions, purchases, and payments; deliver AI-generated analysis and content through our tools; send transactional emails (account confirmation, payment receipts, password resets); send marketing emails you have opted into, including our newsletter; measure the effectiveness of our advertising; respond to your questions and requests; detect and prevent fraud or abuse; and comply with legal obligations.
Our ATS Resume Scanner, Resume Builder AI features, and Cover Letter Generator use third-party artificial intelligence services (currently Anthropic) to process your content. When you use these tools, the text you submit (resume content, job descriptions, and related inputs) is sent to the AI provider's API for processing.
This content is transmitted securely and is used solely to generate your results. We do not use your submitted content to train AI models. The AI provider's handling of data is subject to their own privacy and data processing policies. We select providers that do not use API inputs for model training.
We do not permanently store the full text of resumes or job descriptions submitted to our scanning and cover letter tools beyond what is needed to deliver your results in that session, unless you explicitly save content to your account (such as resumes saved in the Resume Builder).
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share information with third-party service providers strictly as necessary to operate the Site and deliver the Services:
These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We do not share your data with providers for marketing purposes unrelated to our Services.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
Meta Pixel. We use the Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram. This tool may collect data about your activity on our Site, including pages visited and actions taken. You can opt out of Meta's use of this data through your Facebook ad settings or by using an ad blocker.
Google Ads and Google Analytics. We use Google Ads conversion tracking and Google Analytics to measure advertising performance and understand how visitors use the Site. Google may collect data about your activity through cookies and similar technologies. You can opt out through Google's ad settings or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser extension.
We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the Site, maintain your login session, remember your preferences, track tool usage (such as free tier limits), and support our advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling cookies may affect site functionality, including login and usage tracking.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct inaccurate information; request deletion of your personal information; withdraw consent for marketing communications; and request a copy of your data in a portable format.
To make any of these requests, contact us at hello@thecareer.ca. We will respond within 30 days. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data from our systems, though some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention and financial records).
Canadian residents may have additional rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We retain your account information and usage data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. If you cancel your subscription, your account and data remain accessible to you unless you request deletion. If you request account deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Transactional records (purchase history, payment records) may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and accounting compliance.
If you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we will remove you promptly and retain only the minimum information necessary to honour your opt-out preference.
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure authentication through Supabase, and PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The Site is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete it promptly.
The Site is operated from Canada. If you access the Site from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
